Most of my concerns are about the community and the social fabric. They are linked to economic wellbeing and community cohesion, tackling the impact of inequality and the huge income gaps that you see across the borough. That’s where I tend to focus.

If I was thinking about the built environment, the challenge for Merton really is generating enough housing accommodation, built to acceptable and indeed impressive quality standards. That’s the huge challenge in a borough which has few obvious sites that you would immediately identify.
